Shayok Mukhopadhyay is a documentary photographer and filmmaker. He was born in India and lives in White Plains, NY. Mukhopadhyay received an ArtsWestchester Arts Alive Grant for his Port Chester Project.
"People of Port Chester" was inspired by a man wearing a sandwich board. Typically, people doing this are not proud of their job, but it was his own business that he was advertising, and he happily posed for me with his kids. The object of my project is to build a portrait of a community that in many ways is responsible for the upkeep and entertainment of surrounding affluent towns. I hope that my photographs will feed back into the community's pride in itself, and make those outside aware of it.
